Where Does a Political Committee Register?

(Area, Scope and Jurisdiction)

A political committee's desired area, scope, and jurisdiction will determine where the committee must register. If a political committee's area, scope, or jurisdiction changes, the committee must update its organizational forms. Jurisdictional changes will require that a committee re-register with the proper entity.

  • Political committees supporting or opposing statewide, legislative, multi-county candidates and/or issues must register with the Florida Division of Elections.
  • Political committees supporting or opposing only municipal candidates or issues must register with the municipal clerk. Contact the municipal clerk for more information.
  • Political committees supporting or opposing countywide or less than countywide candidates and/or issues (except municipal) must register with this office.
  • A political committee required to file in two or more locations only needs to file with the Florida Division of Elections.
