ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION (OVR)
Lee County Supervisor of Elections Overview

Beginning October 1, 2017, RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov will provide Online Voter Registration (OVR) as another option for any Florida resident who is eligible to vote or is already registered to vote in Florida to submit an application, update an existing registration or prefill an application form to print and deliver to the Supervisor of Elections office.

Users will need a Florida driver license or state identification (ID) card and the last four digits of their social security number to complete and submit the voter registration application electronically. Once an individual’s identity is verified and the application is deemed complete, a voter information card will be issued by a Supervisor of Elections office.

RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov has multiple safeguards in place to verify and protect a person’s identity and personal information, including a state-of-the-art firewall, data encryption, captcha boxes, session time-out after inactivity and the use of multi-screens. The website requires information that only the person seeking to register or change an existing registration should know, such as the issued date of their Florida driver license or state ID card, their Florida driver license or state ID card number and the last four digits of their social security number.

All of this information is verified in real-time in order for a person to complete the application process online. If the information cannot be verified, a person is not able to move forward with submitting the application electronically. Additionally, there is no retention of data within the RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov website because it is securely transmitted to an internal system.

When completing the application process, it is important to note that voter registration books close 29 days before an election. To ensure your application is processed properly, be sure to follow all instruction while using Online Voter Registration (OVR).

If you need to update your signature, send your signature update on a voter registration application to the Supervisor of Elections so that it is received no later than the start of the canvassing of vote-by-mail ballots, which occurs no earlier than the 15th day before Election Day.

In Lee County, if you are registering to vote or updating an existing record through the Online Voter Registration (OVR) and choose to print and mail your application, printed applications must be mailed to:

Supervisor of Elections
P. O. Box 2545
Fort Myers, FL 33902-2545

Florida public records laws apply to voter registration information that is submitted electronically. Information submitted electronically such as Florida driver license or state ID card number, last four digits of social security number and signature are exempt from public disclosure.
