The United States will decide by October 17, 2019, whether to withdraw from the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The UPU is an international postal network that facilitates the exchange of mail in 192 member countries, thereby creating a single global postal territory.
If the United States withdraws from the UPU, the withdrawal will affect the way voters who live abroad send and receive mail. UPU withdrawal may mean increased customs scrutiny of military and civilian mail, which may cause delays in sending and receiving mail abroad.
