Lee County Supervisor of Elections Has Secure Voter Registration and Tabulation Systems

Lee County, FL (June 7, 2017) In response to the latest news stories about Russia’s attempts to “hack” into Florida’s Voter Registration records, the Honorable Tommy Doyle, Supervisor of Elections, would like to reassure you that we have numerous security measures in place to protect the integrity of elections in Lee County.

VR Systems manages the voter registration data systems of 64 out of the 67 counties in Florida and administers Lee County’s system.  They are a highly capable, well-respected company with a proven track record in the state.

Our voter registration system and the database are entirely separate from our election tabulation system.  The election tabulation system is a closed secure system with no internet access.  We have a paper-based voting system that matches every vote tabulated.  Florida law mandates we conduct a post-election audit for every election and verify votes tabulated against votes cast on a paper ballot.

My staff and I execute all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of our voter registration and tabulation systems.  We endeavor to guarantee the integrity and accuracy of every election by administering fair and appropriate voting procedures in compliance with federal and state election laws.
