Lee County, FL (February 20, 2017) Congratulations to Island Coast High School, for the great achievement of winning the Lee County Supervisor of Elections Annual High School Voter Registration Challenge 2017!
The Lee County Supervisor of Elections Community Education Services Department partnered with 15 high schools throughout Lee County to conduct the 2017 Annual High School Voter Registration Challenge.
The goal of the challenge is to promote community service and encourage civic engagement while challenging high schools to compete against each other to register to vote the highest percentage of their eligible students over the age of 16.
The Annual High School Voter Registration Challenge began September 12, 2016 and ended February 1, 2017. The high schools that participated were: Cape Coral, City of Palms, Cypress Lake, Dunbar, East Lee, Estero, Fort Myers, Ida S. Baker, Lehigh Senior, Mariner, North Fort Myers, Palms Acres Charter, Riverdale, South Fort Myers, and Island Coast.
Island Coast High School won due to the great team effort of Principal, Kristin Bueno, and Lead Social Studies Teacher, Michael Auer to coordinate and plan a schedule with the Community Education Services Department staff that enabled them to register 25% of all eligible Island Coast High School students ages 16 and above!
